What is C-TPAT?

C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism)

is a program created by the government of the United States and the private sector to implement systems to strengthen security throughout the supply chain such as importers, carriers, brokers customs warehouses and producers, it also increases security at the borders of the U.S., Mexico and Canada. (Security Seals C-TPAT must be manufactured to meet or exceed ISO 17712).

What tests undergo high security seals?

High security seals must pass various tests set by ISO to ensure the they meet the standards listed as: Tensile Test, where the seal is subjected to a force to measure its resistance to being pulled. The Shear Test is the test of endurance to knives, and blade cuts. The Bending Test testes the seal´s flexibility to adopt curves. And in Impact Test the seal is subjected to different temperatures.

What are the standards that must meet high security seals in the C-TPAT program? | | ISO 17712

 

The ISO 17712 Standard is compulsory, that the security seals and high security seals meet these standards:

    • They must be strong and durable to withstand the accidental rupture or early deterioration (due to weather conditions or chemical action during handling).
    • They can be removed quickly and easily with a suitable tool.
    • They must be identified by a unique consecutive number.
    • They must be constructed so that they cannot be removed without leaving visible traces or lines.
    • They must be designed to allow its use only once.
    • They must be designed such that it is difficult to counterfeit.
